MFUWE LODGE
Mfuwe Lodge is located in South Luangwa National Park, nestled among ebony and fig trees beside an oxbow lagoon on one side and a permanent hippo pool on the other.
The lodge features open-plan reception, lounge, dining, and bar areas with contemporary African furnishings. The Phil Berry Centre offers a library, photo studio, and viewing deck. A large deck extends from the pool over the lagoon, perfect for meals and game viewing.
There are 18 air-conditioned thatched chalets, each privately set along the water’s edge with a private viewing deck. Chalets have mosquito-netted beds, soft lighting, and modern furnishings. Each includes an en suite bathroom with a shower, vanity, and toilet, with a view of the outdoors.
The Director’s House is a two-bedroom, two-bathroom villa with its own garden, swimming pool, dining area, and access to lodge facilities.
Mfuwe Lodge is ideally situated for wildlife viewing, with the oxbow lagoons attracting high concentrations of animals, including elephants, lions, and various bird species. Guests can enjoy day and night game drives, walking safaris, and birdwatching with experienced guides.
The spa provides a peaceful space for relaxation, offering a perfect retreat after a day of activities.
The Lodge is particularly known for the elephants who come for the wild mango fruit from the tree in the courtyard in October, November, and December (depending on the fruit ripening). This phenomenon is unique to Mfuwe Lodge.

The Bushcamp Company operates Mfuwe Lodge, KuKaya, and six Bushcamps in South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.
Mfuwe Lodge has 18 chalets, a 2-bedroom family unit, a pool, curio shop, and spa. KuKaya features five 2-bedroom villas and one single villa, all with extra sleeping space, private pools, firepits, and a private guide and vehicle is included for each villa. The six Bushcamps are in the park’s remote southern area, each with just 4 chalets for an exclusive experience.
South Luangwa is known for its walking safaris, offering a unique view of the bush. Many guests enjoy morning walks at the Bushcamps, and for the ultimate walking experience, they can walk between camps. We also offer extra guides and vehicles for those who prefer game drives. Private guides are available for even more flexibility. The average guest stay is 7 to 10 nights, often at a combination of properties.
Mfuwe Lodge is famous for the elephants that walk through reception each October to December to reach the wild mango tree in the courtyard.
The Bushcamp Company supports several conservation and community initiatives. We provide significant funding to Conservation South Luangwa, supporting their anti-snaring and anti-poaching efforts, and also to the Zambian Carnivore Programme.
Through our Commit to Clean Water program, we have drilled nearly 300 boreholes in the Mfuwe area, providing safe drinking water to nearly 75,000 people daily. Our Meal-a-Day program feeds over 4,000 schoolchildren each day, and our Education Scholarships support over 350 students each year from primary to tertiary education.
