Two climate resilience and wildlife conservation projects have been announced for the Kafue Flats. Worth USD9-million in total, the goal is to safeguard this fragile ecosystem and bolster community resilience especially against future droughts and floods that will be worsened by climate change. They were announced in Lusaka by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment (MGEE).
Named KaF-Adapt and KaF-Wild, the projects are funded though the Global Environment Facility and focus on sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation and climate resilience. The World Wildlife Fund Zambia, in partnership with MGEE and the Ministry for Tourism, as well as the International Crane Foundation, will manage the implementation. The overarching goal is to promote co-existence between people, livestock and wildlife to secure the Kafue Flats for future generations.
